Week 12: Vikings vs Packers - Winners and Losers

The Minnesota Vikings lost 23-6 to the Green Bay Packers in a horrible performance making them 4–7 on the season. We will take a look at the single Winner and many Losers of this game.

Green Bay Packers Micah Parsons sacks Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy twice.

Winner of the Game

1. Will Reichard

Will Reichard had a fantastic game and continues to be the comfort Vikings fans have needed in the kicking position for a long time. He made two field goals beyond 50 yards, including a long of 59 on the day. Reichard also moved into 2nd place on the list of the most 50+ yard field goals in a kicker’s first two seasons, only behind the Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey.

5 Losers of the Game

1. JJ McCarthy

This was a horrible game by JJ McCarthy from all phases. It’s getting to the point where many of us fans are losing patience. I’m not going to decide the kid’s career on six career starts, but this is getting bad. JJ had 87 passing yards on the day with two interceptions. The interceptions this game don’t bother me as much because the game was practically over when he threw them, but it was a rough outing overall. McCarthy was literally nonexistent the entire second half.

2. The Offensive Line

The Vikings finally got their entire offensive line together on the field for the first time in Week 12... and it was a horrible debut. The unit gave up five sacks, including two of them to Micah Parsons, giving their quarterback a rough time in the pocket all day. Of course, by the end of the game Christian Darrisaw and Donovan Jackson were taken out due to injury in the least surprising development of the day.

3. Kevin O’Connell

This was an awful game called by Kevin O'Connell. The call for TJ Hockenson to QB sneak up the middle on 3rd and 1 was horrendous, especially after the run game was working the entire first half. O'Connell needs to realize that Hockenson is cooked — he is not good anymore. Get it through your head. The special teams were awful, the wasted timeout when they thought there were 12 men on the field but it was only 11… I just don't understand what we are doing. It was a painful watch and O'Connell needs to be held accountable. It is his team.

4. Special Teams

Matt Daniels needs to go. The special teams unit has been horrible all season outside of Will Reichard. From the penalties to the fumbled punt at the beginning of the second half that basically put the game out of reach, it has just been an absolute disaster of a season.

5. All the fans that had to watch this game

On behalf of all Vikings fans, I just want the Vikings organization to know that we are losing patience with this team and have been for decades. This was one of the most embarrassing losses I have ever experienced and the worst offensive performance this organization has ever had.
